Artois, or Stella Artois is a beer (or more correctly lager) originating in Leuven, Belgium and produced in the US by Anheuser-Busch. Beer or lager & Anheuser-Busch seem synonymous - and with Anheuser-Busch brewery representing 48.4 percent share of U.S. beer / ale sales it is understandable that Beer, Ale & Anheuser-Busch go together. Established in 1852, the Anheuser-Busch name taken from Eberhard Anheuser & his his son-in-law Adolphus Busch is famous not only for the beer it produces but for such things as the Bush Gardens, SeaWorld and the famous Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales. Eberhard acquired the Bavarian brewery in 1860 and renamed it E. Anheuser & Co until joined by his son in law 4 years later when in 1864 the name Anheuser-Busch was adopted. 100 years later the Anheuser-Busch brewery was producing 10 million barrels of beer annually and in 1980 Anheuser-Busch was listed on the NYSE stock exchange. 1986 saw the brewery pass billion-barrel mark of beer since being founded and in 1997 the Anheuser-Busch brewery saw worldwide beer volume exceed 100 million barrels. Today Anheuser-Busch products represent 48.4 percent share of U.S. beer sales. Having diversified in the 1920s into ice cream, soft drinks ginger ale, root beer, chocolate- and grape-flavored beverages, corn syrup, truck and bus bodies, refrigerated cabinets, baker's yeast and dealcoholized Budweiser as a result of prohibition, Anheuser-Busch continues to diversfy. Stella Artois, promoted as a sophisticated beer is distributed in America by Anheuser-Busch but in the UK and Europe the lager is a major sponsor of the Cannes Film Fersival In 2009, the band All Time Low, released a song called Stella, and it was revealed that the song was not based on a girl, but the beer brand, Stella Artois. In 2010, Stella Artois was the featured beer of choice in the movie about Facebook entitled The Social Network.
